Description

Astrophytum capricorne crassispinum

Astrophytum capricorne is a succulent cactus belonging to the cactacea family with a globular shape that becomes columnar with time. It differs from other Astrophytum capricorne for its larger, green-coloured stem, generally lacking the typical white downy stippling. It has ribs marked by a thin margin with yellowish downy areoles on which grow its long, twisted, greyish-brown thorns, reminiscent of capricorn horns, hence the name 'Capricorne'. Its flowers are large and bright yellow with a red centre.
