Cultivation and plant care

  • It is a slow-growing plant that needs full sun exposure, it is advisable to keep it at mild temperatures that do not drop below 6-8 °C.
  • It needs very draining and mineral-rich soil. Just use a typical soil for cacti and better if mixed with a little fine gravel. It does not need frequent fertilization and it will be enough to use a product suitable for cacti in early spring.
  • They should be watered regularly, sparingly, and depending on the climate, once every 3-4 days, and as for all cacti, it must be checked that the soil is completely dry before watering again, and suspend completely when the temperature drops below 15°C.

Strombocactus disciformis – Characteristics

The Strombocactus disciformis is a succulent plant native to Mexico and belonging to the Cactaceae family. It is small in size, the only one of the Strombocactus genus, and is formed by a cylindrical and flattened stem, characterized by the presence of floss, especially in old plants. The stem is covered with grey-green spiralled tubercles. The areolas are on the tops of the tubercles with about 1-4 thorns in adult plants. The thorns are present only on young tubercles, and over time they will fall off, which is why they are not found at the base of the plant. The funnel-shaped flowers appear at the apex of the stem and are creamy yellow or deep pink.
