Astrophytum capricorne senile – Characteristics

The Astrophytum capricorne senile is a succulent plant belonging to the Cactaceae family with a globular shape that becomes columnar over time. It differs from the other Astropytum Capricorne for its green stem, larger in size and generally devoid of the typical fluffy white dots. It has ribs marked by a thin margin with yellowish fluffy areoles on which grow its long twisted spines with a grey-brownish colour, which refer to the horns of a Capricorn, hence the name ‘Capricorne’. Its flowers are large and bright yellow with a red centre.
