Description
Astrophytum Asterias Star Type – Characteristics
This Astrophytum Asterias Star Type is a small Cactaceae with a flattened globular shape, concave in the centre and without thorns. Its stem, green in colour tending to grey, is composed of about 6 to 8 ribs which in adulthood can reach about 15 centimetres in diameter. This Astrophytum is often considered as one of the most beautiful Astrophytum due to its symmetry highlighted by the silky areolas that are located in the centre of each rib, it is also embellished by a series of numerous dots. It is also one of the slowest growing Astrophytuym.
The flowers will appear about 5 years after sowing, they are large and are located at their peak, and are characterized by a beautiful yellow colour with a red-orange interior.
It is an endangered species, listed in Appendix I of CITES.
